Canola Establishment in the Low Rainfall Zones

Living Farm managed a GRDC funded project “Canola Establishment in the Low Rainfall Zones” over 2022 and 2023.

The project saw Living Farm working with a network of Grower Groups in the Low Rainfall Zone to establish small plot trials, looking to show a range of treatments relevant to particular areas, to improve canola establishment. Variables such as sowing depth, time of sowing, use of soil wetter, seed size, proximity of fertiliser to the seed and plant density will be trialled.

Working in conjunction with farmers and grower groups, the project aimed to provide relevant information to growers, while being adaptable to changing seasonal conditions. The work from this project was extended to growers, with field walks being held over the two years of the project.
